Before you get started...

This page is here to help make your CoverStaff account setup as simple as possible.

By registering now, you'll be the first in line to hear from schools as soon as new booking opportunities arrive on CoverStaff!

After registering, you will need the following information to successfully complete your account setup process - so make sure you have this to hand!

  • Right to Work document - e.g a valid UK passport
  • 2 documents showing proof of address - dated within the last 3 months (or within the last year, if using a council tax bill)
  • Enhanced DBS Check registered with the Update Service - please see here for further information.
  • Details for 2 professional references that you're happy for us to contact

If you have all of the required information, setting up your account should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

Step 1

Completing your profile

On the side menu, under ‘About you’, head to the ‘Profile’ page.

Within this page, you will see separate tabs to enter some required information about yourself:

  • Personal details
  • Qualifications
  • Employment history
  • Roles, skills & subjects
  • Referees
  • CV

Simply navigate through the sections and enter the required information to fill in your profile. Each tab will have information on the page explaining how to complete that section, so please make sure to read this. The roles, skills and subjects section will be covered in further detail below.

Step 2

Roles, skills & subjects

This section is particularly important, as our CoverStaff algorithms will match you to jobs based on your selected experience and preferred subjects/roles – so make sure this section accurately reflects your skillset.

Simply click ‘Add Roles & Subjects’ at the top right of the page to get started.

Here, you are able to select:

  • The school phase you’d like to work in (e.g Nursery, Primary, Secondary)
  • The role you’d like to work in (e.g Teacher, Teaching Assistant)
  • The subject you’d like to work in (e.g English, Maths)

You can also use the slider options to specify how recently you’ve taught a subject or role, how frequently you teach it, and your years of experience in that role.

To add skills, select ‘Add skills’, use the drop-down menu to find the skill you want to add, and use the slider options to specify recency, frequency and years of experience.

Finally, you can also add any spoken or written languages in the same way, by selecting ‘Add Languages’. You’ll also be able to select a toggle specifying whether you can teach in that language.

Add as many subjects and roles as you’re willing to work in, and make sure to include all eligible phases. If you’re looking to teach English across both Primary and Secondary phases, for example, you would have to enter this as two separate roles.

As bookings come in, you will then be able to manage where you’d like to work and the roles you’ll accept in your ‘Bookings’ section within the right hand menu, which displays an overview of any accepted bookings.

Step 3

Completing your vetting checks

Before you are cleared to accept bookings you must have completed your vetting checks. This part of the process enables schools to find you and offer roles and bookings.

On the side menu, under ‘About you’, head to the ‘Vetting’ page.

Once on the Vetting page, click on the ‘View’ button to the side of your CoverStaff National Pool, or any other eligible vetting pool.

This will bring up a list of each separate vetting check stage, alongside their current status, as well as a list of how many schools are available to work with once your vetting for this pool has been completed.

You are required to complete this section successfully, in accordance with REC and KCSIE compliance standards, to be cleared for work.

To progress, select ‘Actions – Edit’, displayed to the right of each vetting check requirement, and work your way through each section until all required vetting sections have been completed.

Each section will have information on the page explaining how to complete that part, so please make sure to read this. If you have any questions regarding completing your vetting check, please visit our Candidate FAQs for further information to do with this.

Step 4

Your interview and references

Don’t worry – this isn’t a formal interview! After completing all individual vetting sections, you will need to book a time slot to have a Microsoft Teams meeting with one of our friendly Compliance team members. This is purely for screening purposes, to verify your identity and documentation.

A member of our Compliance team will check your vetting documents and send reference requests to your designated referee contacts.

Please note that although we strive to clear candidates for work as quickly as possible, compliance procedures can take a while to complete depending on the information provided and how quickly your referees respond, so your patience with this is appreciated.

Once your references have been returned and all compliance requirements are complete, your vetting status will change to ‘Live’ – and you can now look forward to receiving the job offers that you want!

Please select an interview slot between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Step 5

Configuring your preferred schools

You’ve already submitted your role and subject preferences, but what about the schools you’d like to work with most?

On the side menu, under ‘About you’, head to the ‘My schools’ page.

Here, you can edit your desired travel radius for receiving bookings. This page will also display the schools available for you to work with, based on your travel radius.

Clicking the ‘minus’ symbol next to a school’s name will indicate that you don’t want to work with that particular school (don’t worry, they won’t be notified of this).

Clicking the ‘plus’ symbol will resubscribe you to booking offers from that school. You can also click the ‘heart’ icon to mark your favourite schools.

Step 6

You're ready to go!

If you’ve followed the above steps successfully, your CoverStaff profile should be complete and you are all set to receive the work that you want!

Don’t forget, any of your profile, subject or school preferences are editable at any point within your CoverStaff account. As well as managing your availability and preferred schools, CoverStaff gives you access to designated school contacts who you will be able to get in touch with, should you have a query with a particular school.

You’re ready to earn more, on your terms! Your CoverStaff experience starts here.
